Terms explained

Plain-English definitions of the vH₂O₂, engineering, and regulatory terms used across this site.

vH₂O₂ (Vaporised Hydrogen Peroxide)
A dry-gas sterilant that achieves 6-log₁₀ microbial reduction with full surface penetration and no line-of-sight limitation, decomposing into water vapour (H₂O) and oxygen (O₂).
VHP
Common industry abbreviation for vaporised hydrogen peroxide, synonymous with vH₂O₂.
6-log₁₀ Reduction
A Sterility Assurance Level of 10⁻⁶ — a validated one-in-a-million probability of a surviving microorganism after decontamination.
Bio-decontamination
The process of eliminating bacteria, viruses, fungi, prions, and spores from a surface or enclosed environment.
Aeration Phase
The final phase of a vH₂O₂ cycle, in which residual H₂O₂ decomposes to a safe re-entry level — reduced to roughly 1 hour with a catalytic converter versus 24+ hours passively.
Catalytic Converter
A device (e.g. CLEAMIX VCS-C1000CR) that accelerates the decomposition of residual H₂O₂ into water vapour and oxygen, cutting aeration time from 24+ hours to about 1 hour.
Isolator
A sealed enclosure used in pharmaceutical manufacturing that physically separates a process from the surrounding cleanroom to maintain aseptic conditions.
cRABS (Closed Restricted Access Barrier System)
An enclosed barrier system used in aseptic pharmaceutical manufacturing to protect sterile processes from operator and environmental contamination.
Modbus TCP/IP
An industrial communication protocol that lets DECX generators act as slave devices, exposing sensor data and controls to a master PLC, SCADA, or DCS over standard Ethernet.
21 CFR Part 11
A US FDA regulation governing electronic records and electronic signatures, supported by DECX systems via automatic audit-trail logging of every cycle.
WHO GMP
The World Health Organization's Good Manufacturing Practice guidelines, one of the regulatory frameworks DECX deployments are validated against.
EN 17272
A European standard covering automated processes for the disinfection of surfaces in enclosed spaces, which DECX equipment is certified against.
EtO (Ethylene Oxide)
A legacy gaseous sterilant used in food and medical-device processing that DECX vH₂O₂ is validated to replace, with zero toxic residue.
HAI (Hospital-Acquired Infection)
An infection acquired during a hospital stay; terminal room decontamination with vH₂O₂ has recorded up to 64% HAI reduction.
